Lodging Reservations
Unless you are traveling to touristy Western countries or arriving late at night, you may not need them. It's more cost effective and less restrictive on your freedom of movement not to be tied to a room reservation which requires exact arrival dates and, possibly, cancellation charges. With just a little effort, you'll find a place to stay, usually far cheaper than the hotels which can advertise internationally. Another option is to search the Internet for accommodations in the area you are visiting and call them the day you arrive for any “special” rates.
There are, however, benefits to reserving your room in advance.

Students: If you're a student, be sure to get your International Student Identification Card. This will save you a ton of money in many countries, especially Western ones. Visit http://www.myisic.com/MyISIC/ or www.nunomad.com/store to obtain one.
