One of Thailand's challenges to Cambodia's Angkor Wat is the first Thai Kingdom (13th Century) of Sukhothai. Although Wat Mahathat may be considered the crown jewel of the ruins, Khmer-style Wat Sri Sawai, with its three towers is also quite impressive. Around the Old City are other interesting Wats, villages and nature to visit on motorcycle, foot, or mountain bike (preferred).

Sukhothai is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
